Two Hippie Chic

A gathering of pretty things, lovely links and loads of fun brought to you by two hippies.
This has been and will always be one of my favorite images/moments in time.
It was also one of the saddest moments of my life.
Mourning 32 people, we stood on the Drillfield silent.  Somber.  Struggling to maintain composure.  Avoiding eye contact because when you saw the sadness in another’s eyes, you were unable to contain your own.  The tears poured.
Black tape across the letters KKΓ.  One of ours was taken.  While we hated the attention, hated the knowing looks, hated explaining “yes, I knew someone,” we still wanted everyone to know.  One of ours was taken.  One of ours is gone.
The sense of community was overwhelming.
We would get through it.  With the help of our fellow Hokies, we would get through it.
As the tears fell, someone began singing “Amazing Grace”.
And soon, all of us were singing it.
And that’s when I really knew, we’d be ok.
